This course covers basic aeronautical knowledge required for the Private Pilot - Airplane written exam. The Ground School course is required prior to beginning your actual flight training and taking the FAA Private Pilot knowledge test and checkride.

Private Pilot Certificate Requirements

Airplane Single Engine Land (ASEL)

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires under Part 61:

  • Be at Least 17 years old (16 to solo)

  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language

  • 40 hours or more of flight training, including:

    • 20 hours dual instruction

    • 10 hours solo

    • 3 hours cross-country

    • 5 hours solo cross-country

    • 3 hours night flying

  • Pass a written exam with 70% or better

  • Pass an knowledge and practical exam checkride given by a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE).
