What is a Checkride?

The checkride is a test of the knowledge and skill that you have gained during your flight training with your flight instructor to becoming a private pilot, or any other pilot certificate or rating you my go for. Checkrides are given by either an FAA Aviation Safety Inspector or a Designed Pilot Examiner (DPE). It involves an oral exam followed by a flight test portion. The oral or ground portion will take about an hour to an hour and a half, and the flight takes about an hour. The total time scheduled for a checkride is approximately 4 hours.
