With advances in technology the old six pack gauges, commonly referred to as steam gauges are slow being phased out and being replaced with the Glass Cockpit. Electronic Flight Instrumentation System (EFIS) systems are designed to reduce the workload for the pilots. and enhance situational awareness.
Electronic Flight Display (EFD) also known as the Glass Cockpit. The EFD consist of primary, and multifunction displays. These can show different types of flight information such as:
Flight progress
Checklists
Performance data
Engine monitoring
Navigation
Terrain/traffic
Weather etc.
With the EFD, Instrument panels are not as cluttered with different instruments and gauges, everything is all on one liquid crystal display (LCD) screen.
