TSA REQUIREMENT
Required before Your Flight Training

Please review the following steps and complete each item, the best you can before your first lesson. Don’t worry, do one step at a time, and we’re here to help if you have questions!
Under Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulation 49 CFR Part 1552, students must provide proof of U.S. citizenship before beginning certain flight training. The Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) must review the documents and keep copies in the student’s training record.
U.S. Citizens & U.S. Nationals
You do not need direct authorization from the TSA, but you must present acceptable documentation to your CFI before your first lesson. The most common ways to fulfill this include:

Government-issued photo ID (unexpired, such as a driver's license) combined with either:

A valid U.S. Passport (unexpired)

U.S. Birth Certificate (original or certified)

Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of U.S.

Non-U.S. Citizens (Candidates)
If you are not a U.S. citizen or national, you must legally undergo a Security Threat Assessment (STA) and receive a Determination of Eligibility directly from the TSA before any flight training can begin. Contact us for further assistance.
TSA will review these items:

Identity and biographic information.

Immigration or lawful-presence information.

Required identity documents.

Fingerprints, when TSA instructs you to complete them.

The applicable TSA Security Threat Assessment fee.
